STOP AND CHECK OUT THE SCENERY!

Today I want to make one of my books come alive for you through pictures. [Since I write romance, that should scare you, but I assure you, it’s strictly PG. ;) ] Two crucial scenes in my romantic suspense TRAPPED UNDER ICE take place at a winery that is roughly based on one located in Rocheport, Missouri. I recently had an opportunity to visit that winery again and it was cool to walk in Beth and Chad’s fictional footsteps.

I was in a panic, however, when I climbed to the top of the bluff overlooking the Missouri River and found a restaurant there. Where was Chad and Beth’s A-frame? The restaurant was gorgeous, but it didn’t have the charm of the winery, with its terraced patio area and spectacular view of the river below. After a bit, I discovered that the A-frame was still there, just a little further down the path. What a relief! Chad and Beth’s spot intact. It is a very romantic location, made more so by my own memories. My husband and I attended the University of Missouri-Columbia, which is not far from Rocheport, and we visited the winery when we first started dating. Maybe that’s why it came to mind when I began writing TRAPPED UNDER ICE.

Here are a few pictures from our recent trip. You will find the scene at the top of the bluff, and the path Chad and Beth slid down as they hurried to get back to practice before Roger blew his top. You’ll see some of the things that Beth oohed and ahhed about when they first started along their walk. Hopefully you’ll enjoy the pictures of a very scenic area, even if you haven’t read TRAPPED—yet.

If you haven’t read it, here’s a blurb to give you a feel for the characters that arrive at Rocheport’s winery.

Chad Evans, lead singer of the platinum record award winning band, Trapped Under Ice, is haunted by his past.

Growing up in an abusive home, he is left alone at the age of thirteen to raise his kid brother. Years later Chad still fights the pain he felt as a child, and the anger it causes, despite being a wildly successful rock star. “Chad [tries] to play his heart out on the stage; but he [can] never quite seem to leave it there.”

Three years have passed since her husband, Paul’s, death, but Beth’s life is still shadowed by sorrow.

The lunch lady/writer is thrilled to be enjoying a Trapped Under Ice concert with her daughter, Cassie. But when the concert is over, they are followed and attacked by two men in one of the stadium’s bathrooms. When Chad and his bodyguard, Pete, come to their aid, an instant attraction sparks between Beth and the tall singer.

Will Chad and Beth be able to leave their pasts behind? Or will they remain TRAPPED UNDER ICE?

They have to face difficulties from without, (ex-girlfriends who resurface, crazed fans who don’t want to take “no” for an answer…), as well as difficulties from within, (jealousy, anger, fear…). And just as the two seem to be able to work through their problems, someone starts sending Chad death threats. Will their story end before it even begins?

~ M.J. SCHILLER ~ ROCKING REALITY! ~

Hi! We’re going to play a little game. Ready? What do you think of when I say the words—rock star. Go!

Okay, so did you think--partier, drugs, drinking, women, fans...? It is true, those do seem to be more prevalent in the life of a rocker than say, the life of your average telephone repair man. A lot of rock romances focus on this, what has become a stereotype of a rocker. And that’s great. I’m all for it. I enjoy reading those books. I just write my stories a little differently. I like to keep it real. Or as real as fiction can be.

For instance, you are not going to see paparazzi splashed over all of the pages of my books. You’ll see them more when my characters are in L.A. or New York, but not if the band is playing Kansas City or St. Louis or even Chicago. While photographers and fans are a huge part of these musicians lives, it’s not necessarily a 24/7 kind of thing. So the city matters, and so does the specific location. Are they at the mall? Or at a private club? Are they in town for a show? Then people might have a heightened awareness of their presence. Are they at the venue? Crowds are definitely going to show up there.

It also depends on what kind of rocker we’re talking about. Chad Evans, from Trapped Under Ice would draw a little bit more attention than Chase Hatton of Abandon All Hope. Chad is much more comfortable in the limelight. He works the crowd, he makes appearances, but even he is not as outgoing as his partner Roger. Still, Chad dates models, is seen in the tabloids, has a body guard. There is a scene in Trapped Under Ice when Beth and Chad and the boys are walking to the bus through a crowd of onlookers who are held back by barriers and security. This is a big part of the story and is told through Beth’s eyes, someone who is new to it all. They are in Kansas City, a fairly sizable town, and at the venue. Later, when Chad visits Beth in Bloomington, Illinois, they don’t have to deal with fans. “They had dinner with Cassie at a nearby restaurant Pete [the body guard] checked out beforehand. There were a few stares and some whispering, but since Trapped Under Ice wasn’t playing in town, most people chalked it up to a phenomenal resemblance.”

Now Chase Hatton is a different breed of rocker. He’s a loner. He’s not part of a band, he’s the main act that is backed by a nameless band. Think Cher or Madonna. We don’t know the names of most of the members of their bands either. Chase also keeps a low profile when not on stage. He’s not out hobnobbing with the rich and famous. He probably wouldn’t have a Twitter page. It’s not that he’s not personable, but he’s from Nebraska, grew up in a middle class family—he likes things pure and laid back, like Hope. Still, when in Chicago he avoids public transit and wears a baseball cap to the zoo so that he won’t be recognized.

(My picture~Seether at The House of Blues, Chicago~May 2014)

Another factor is the genre of music. Pop stars, by
definition, are popular and therefore recognizable, for the most part. Rock band members, not so much. Even though I’ve seen 5 Finger Death Punch several times, lead singer Ivan Moody could walk right by me and I wouldn’t blink, unless I was at the venue. He doesn’t have any really distinguishing features. He wears the same kind of clothing that his fans do. He blends in, until he opens his mouth to sing.

And I think it also depends on whether the star wants to be seen. I’m thinking Reese Witherspoon could walk through an airport and not be hassled, if she chose to, or saunter through the same airport and sign tons of autographs. If she was willing to stop and speak with her fans, she’d be dolled up and make a lot of eye contact. In a rush or not in the mood to deal with that? Dressed down, wearing a ponytail, and keeping her head low.

Here’s a little story to illustrate my point. A while back Nickelback was in town for two weeks, secretly testing their new stage in our coliseum. They ate at local restaurants, drank in local bars, went to the phone store…and yet I NEVER KNEW THEY WERE HERE! Mind you, I have snuck back stage at three Nickelback concerts (and gotten thrown out). If I had seen them on the street I guarantee you there would have been a scene, believe me. However, they are four somewhat average looking guys, wearing t-shirts and jeans. I would have recognized them, if they were together, but maybe not individually. If I saw just one of them I might have been like, “Hey! That guy looks like Ryan Peake!” But knowing that Nickelback wasn’t playing in town, I might have blown it off. I would have definitely recognized all four of them, yet there were people in town that carried on lengthy conversations with them without even knowing who they are. (That burns me!)

(Seether again~House of Blues, Chicago)

I had a little fun with the idea of being recognized in my latest release, ROCK ME, GENTLY. Josh Dunningham, of Money Back Guaranteed, is told by several people that he looks “just like” Josh Dunningham of Money Back Guaranteed, but people still don’t believe that it’s him. Except for a pair of fans who do cause a scene at a restaurant despite Josh’s attempts to keep his identity on the down low.

So how about you? Ever have a run in with a celebrity? Now’s your time to shine! Tell us about it. Brag! Go on, it'll do ya some good!

~ COOKIN' WITH M.J.! ~

Hi, y'all! To celebrate the release of our SWEET & SAVORY COOKBOOK (on sale for 99¢ http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00K08SI3S/) I want to share a recipe for a dish in TRAPPED UNDER ICE. Just like this post, SWEET & SAVORY COOKBOOK has both recipes and excerpts from the novels they are inspired by!
That's right, baby! I'm going to get you cooking on two different levels! A fun little twist to entertain you while you're waiting for that pot to boil! So, without further ado, I give you Chad and Beth's Rock Cornish Game Hens!

Excerpt ~

She hung her head for a minute, taking her hand from his momentarily to brush away tears. “It’s just, I can’t believe you did all of this for me. Flew me up here—” Her voice cracked. “This is so incredibly special to me. But you know, don’t you, I’d be happy just being with you at a fast food joint. Well, maybe not just any fast food joint, but an upscale fast food joint.”

He laughed, holding her hand up to his lips again as he said, “I know, Beth. Sometimes I just have an urge to show you, in some way, how much you mean to me.”

A tuxedoed waiter appeared out of nowhere with covered dishes of Rock Cornish game hens and wild rice.

TRAPPED UNDER ICE is currently free! Download it here:

Chad And Beth’s Orange Glazed Rock Cornish Game Hens

So now you, too, can eat Rock Cornish Game Hens with your fictional rock star!

(This isn't the picture from the recipe, just representative of the dish.)

6 Cornish hens, rinsed and patted dry

½ T. seasoning salt

1 T. lemon-pepper

1 T. poultry seasoning

1 T. basil

1 c. thawed orange juice concentrate

1 c. balsamic vinegar

6 T. olive oil, divided

2 tsp. dried rosemary or 8 stems fresh rosemary

Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Line 2 baking pans with foil. Set a baking rack in each pan. Spray with cooking spray. In a small bowl, stir together salt, pepper, poultry seasoning, and basil. In a second bowl combine orange juice, vinegar, and 4 T. olive oil. Place hens on racks and rub with remaining 2 T. olive oil. Rub in seasoning mix. Pour vinaigrette over hens. If using fresh rosemary, chop 8 stems. If using dried rosemary rub 2 tsp. between palms to release essence. Sprinkle over hens.

Cook for 15 minutes at 425 degrees, then lower temperature to 375 degrees and cook for approximately 30 minutes more or until thermometer inserted in thickest part reads 165 degrees and juices run clear. Remove the hens from ovens and loosely tent for ten minutes before serving.

Enjoy!

~ SHOULD I BE ON AN EPISODE OF HALLOWEEN HOARDERS? YOU DECIDE! ~

I love Halloween! Not the blood and gore kind of Halloween, but the happy memories of going trick-or-treating with my sister, of guzzling apple cider, hauling bulging pillowcases, separating candy into piles on the floor, already arranged from best to worst. Or what about those plastic masks with elastic straps that never failed to get cockeyed so that you couldn't see and you'd trip and bloody your chin? Sigh. Those were the days.

There are other memories, too. I remember our neighbors, The Snyders, who always invited you in for donuts, instead of candy. When you walked into their house you were in a huge foyer, with arched doorways on both sides, and a wide curved staircase in front of you that led up to the open floor above where the many Snyders had bedrooms (I feel like there were at least ten, though it's probably more like six). To the right was the dining room and on the long table sat an enormous punch bowl, always filled with some sweet and cooling concoction. I'd close my eyes as I drank, the liquid calming a throat dry from laughing in the October air as I ran from house to house in a furious quest to get the most candy, and the most cavities.

I remember another house, up the block. They always had a party and when you rang that doorbell you were forced into a living room circled with chairs full of adults, ready to see you perform your trick. Maybe it was the slight of hand move your uncle showed you, or a cartwheel, or semblance thereof. Or maybe you'd tell the corny joke you'd memorized before you left the house. You know, what does Frankenstein eat for lunch? Halloweenies! Or what has four wheels and flies? All together now--a garbage truck! Or maybe, what eight-legged creature rules the sea? Billy the Squid. I don't think my kids have even once performed a trick for their candy. They're missing out. And I miss that! I miss those days.

So I do things to remember. My decorations reflect the nostalgic way I feel about Halloween.

 A bit overdone?

My good feelings have spilled over to the clothes I wear. (And this is just what was clean!) I start October first and then there's a sad period between Halloween and Christmas that I have to wear normal clothes before donning the reindeer and Santa Claus shirts.

I even have Halloween jewelry.

Placemats.
Napkins (and, of course, napkin rings!).
Cups.

You get the picture.

And I have to make loads of goodies to fill that festive table.

Heck, even my shopping list is Halloweeny!

I get a little nutty, I guess.

What about you? What are some of your favorite Halloween items?

Since we're talking about scary things, let me tell you a little bit about the harrowing trials I put my rock star hero through in TRAPPED UNDER ICE!

Blurb:

Trapped Under Ice is a novel about a three time platinum record-producing band whose lead singer, Chad Evans, is haunted by his past.  Growing up in an abusive home, then being left alone at the age of thirteen to raise his kid brother, Chad still fights the pain he felt as a child, and the anger it causes, despite being a wildly successful rock star.  “Chad [tries] to play his heart out on the stage; but he [can] never quite seem to leave it there.”

Beth Donovan, lunch lady/writer, is thrilled to be enjoying a Trapped Under Ice concert with her daughter, Cassie.  Even though it has been three years since her husband, Paul’s, death, sorrow still shadows her life, so the distraction of seeing her favorite group is a welcome one.  However, when the concert is over, Beth and her daughter are followed and attacked by two men in one of the stadium’s bathrooms.  When Chad and his bodyguard, Pete, come to their aid, an attraction sparks immediately between Beth and the tall singer.

Though the pair is drawn to each other, the relationship goes through numerous trials centered on Chad’s unresolved anger, and Beth’s fear of opening herself up again.  Just as the two seem to be able to work through their problems, they face being separated forever by someone who is sending Chad death threats.  Trapped Under Ice is the story of a love-affair fraught with difficulties from without, (ex-girlfriends who resurface, crazed fans who don’t want to take “no” for an answer…), as well as difficulties from within, (jealousy, anger, fear…).  Will Chad and Beth be able to rise above these trials and tribulations? Or will they remain trapped under ice?

~WELCOME ONCE AGAIN TO MY SEXY SATURDAY~

I've had so much fun the last two weeks participating in the My Sexy Saturday Blog Hop! So, I thought I'd do it again. Join the fun and hop from site to site and catch 7 words, 7 sentences, or 7 paragraphs from many of your favorite writers.

Sexy can be an intense stare from across the room, or a detailed description of a couple's most intimate moments. I again chose my seven from TRAPPED UNDER ICE:

Beth thought she would implode or explode or be shattered in some way if she couldn’t feel him inside of her. She didn’t know who taught his mouth to work that way, and right now, she didn’t care. As Chad traveled across her stomach, she could feel her insides turn to jelly. The way his lips and tongue felt, and the soft brush of his goatee as he moved up…Beth couldn’t take it anymore. She gently pushed him away and unbuttoned her jeans, wriggling out of them. He stood at the same time, moving to the side of the bed and switching the lamp off. He almost knocked it over in his hurry, but steadied it before reaching down to take off the rest of his clothes.

Now here's where to get your next sexy snippet:

~MY SEXY SATURDAY~

Hi! Today I am lucky enough to be participating in the My Sexy Saturday blog hop. Each of the participating blogs will be featuring 7 words, 7 sentences, or 7 paragraphs from either a published work or WIP (work in progress). Hop around and get a little taste of some great writers!

Everyone has their own idea of sexy and readers of all kinds love to read what we offer. Being sexy and hot doesn’t require us to take off all our clothes...or maybe it does.

Touch of his hand, a heart stopping kiss or a slow, sensual game of strip poker played on a hot summer night to pass the time can be very exciting. How lovers think about each other is also a turn on. Sexy can be just thinking about your special someone as he or she is far away and just the thought of them makes you all hot and bothered as you anticipate their homecoming.

Sexy can be earth-shattering, wall-banging in the most unlikely of places or it can be that slow sensual wedding night as each of you learn just what your lover likes for the very first time.

It all depends upon your perspective.

I chose my seven lines from TRAPPED UNDER ICE.

Chad took his hands from her arms and placed his fingers behind her neck. She froze, unsure of what he was doing. He gently rubbed his thumbs across her mouth, his eyes taking in the delicate curve of her lips as he touched them. Then, his eyes lifted to hers, and she saw in them anguish and need and pain and…something more. He bent closer, inch by inch, tantalizing her as she craned her neck, rising up on her toes to reach him. His lips finally claimed hers with a rush.

His lips felt, oooh, so good, and she realized for the first time how wonderfully full they were. With a moan that filled them both, he kissed her more deeply, his tongue exploring her mouth, his hands sliding down to pull her closer.

I chose my seven lines from TRAPPED UNDER ICE ~

With her thumbs, Beth was tracing the line of his

eyebrows. He closed his eyes, exhaling all of the pain of the last hour and drinking in her touch like a much-needed tonic. Her hands moved to his lips and she traced their outline with one finger, in what he thought was the most erotic movement he ever felt. He unconsciously sucked in his breath and opened his eyes. They continued to gaze at each other for a moment, the sexual tension mounting.

His hands seduced, moving up the back of her thighs little by little and over the curve of her buttocks. This time it was Beth who closed her eyes and sucked in her breath in anticipation.

AHH, YES! THE DELETED SCENE WHERE CHAD MEETS CALI FOR THE FIRST TIME...

*          *          *

Beth hovered over her daughter.  Her heart was full of gratitude for the miracle the doctor had announced, and full of anguish over the long road back Cas’ would have to take, physically, as well as emotionally.  “How am I going to tell my baby her best friend is dead?”  she whispered to Chad.
“You’ll find the right words when the time comes,” he reassured her.
Beth put the rail of the bed down so she could hold Cassie’s hand.  She struggled to find her words.  “Cas’, baby, I’m right here.”  The mother paused, unsure of what to say next.  “Cas’?”  She rubbed her daughter’s arm, peering again into her still face.
Then, for no particular reason, Beth remembered a trip to Chicago they took when Cassie was little.  “Remember that time Dad and I took you up to the Navy Pier and Shedd’s Aquarium?” she said out loud, starting slowly.  “There was a Beluga whale making all kinds of noise because she was about to give birth.  I think it was one of the first Beluga births in captivity, but I’m not sure.  I know they were very excited about it.”
There was no return, except for the beep of machines.
            “Keep going,” Chad encouraged her.
“And then we watched the dolphin show.  You always loved dolphins because of those silly smiles they always wear.  You were so excited because you got to be part of the show and feed the dolphins. And remember the seahorses?  They had a seahorse exhibit and we never knew how many different kinds there were.  Some didn’t even look like the seahorses you usually see in books.”
            Chad saw Cassie’s foot move.
“And we discovered the males carried their babies--”
            “Beth, look.”
Cassie moved her head a fraction.  “M-mom?”
Beth struggled for a second with the lump in her throat.  “Oh, Cas’!  I’m right here, honey.  I‘m right here,” she choked out.
“M-mmm,” she moaned, her eyes still closed.  “Wh-what happened?  Ohhh!”  She seemed agitated, as if she was in a lot of pain.  Beth’s eyes flitted to the nurse.
“I’ll get the doctor to up her pain meds.”
“Sweetheart, you were in an accident.  But you’re okay now.”
“We’re you just talking about the dolphin show?” Cassie asked as the doctor entered in a rush, followed by the nurse.
            Beth smiled, “You remember it?”
“I got to make him do a trick.”
“That’s right.  I had forgotten that.”
“Cassie,” the doctor inserted, “I’m Dr. Tuilly.  How are you feeling?”
She opened her eyes, blinking in the bright light.  “I’ve had better days.”
They all smiled, exchanging relieved looks.
“Listen Cassie, we’re going to give you some more pain medication, but first I need for you to do a couple of things for me.”  He pulled back the covers on the bed and placed her heel in his hand.  “Cassie, can you push on my hand with your left foot?”  It was clear she could.  Beth squeezed Chad’s hand.  “Good, good.”  The doctor ran Cassie through a series of tests, all of which she passed with flying colors.  “You’re getting tired now, aren’t ya, hon?”  Cassie nodded, again closing her eyes.  “Well, we’re going to give you some good stuff now to help you get some sleep.  Say goodnight to your mom.”
“Goodnight, Mom.  Hey, Chad!  What are you doing here?”
“I was in the neighborhood.  I’m glad you’re feeling better,” he reached down to squeeze her hand.
“Thanks,” she mumbled with a smile.  The doctor nodded to the nurse, who injected something into the IV.  Cassie closed her eyes, and drifted peacefully off to sleep.
“Let’s step outside,” the doctor suggested in a hushed tone.  But when they were in the hall, the doctor was hardly able to contain his excitement, blurting out, “This is the best possible scenario.  All her neuromotor skills seem to be intact, there seems to be no memory loss….  Mrs. Donovan, she’s going to be just fine.”
“Oh, you’re the best!”  Beth threw her arms around him again, kissing him on the cheek.
Once more, the young doctor seemed embarrassed by Beth’s exuberance.  “As I said before, we’ve done little more than make Cassie as comfortable as possible and monitor her progress.  The credit goes to you and your daughter.”
“Yes, but doctor, you knew what pain medications to give her, and you monitored her progress so you could be ready to step in and help her if the time came.  You’ll forgive me, I hope, for my excitement.  You’ve just returned my daughter to me.”
He grabbed her hands, “Okay, Mrs. Donovan, you win.  I’m glad I could be of help.  And I thank you, too.  A doctor can also get excited about a patient getting better, and this has made my day.  Now…Cassie will be out for at least 2 hours, more likely close to 4, so stretch your legs, or do whatever you need to.”  He turned to go, but as he passed Chad he added, tapping his shoulder with the medical chart in his hand.  “Now, you, Mr. Evans, I’m not so happy with.”  Both men grinned as they parted.
“What did he mean by that?”
“Uh, I’ll explain later.” Chad grabbed her up in a huge bear-hug.  “See,” he whispered in her ear, “I told you it would be all right.”  They parted and she kissed the singer happily.  “I think we should stretch our legs,” he commented, “as the good doctor advised.  Hold on, I’ll be right back.”
Beth watched as he went up to the nurses’ station to ask a question.  The nurse was gesturing with her response, and Beth could tell he had asked for directions.
            “What did you ask them?”
“You’ll see,” he hinted, taking her hand and leading her down several halls.  He finally opened a set of double doors, and they stepped out into a small courtyard.  The entire courtyard was covered with giant skylights, so it was like being outside, without the inclement weather.  There were several tables scattered about, but they were alone, possibly due to the fact that, despite the designer’s best efforts, it was still fairly cold in the area.
As soon as they entered and the door closed behind them Chad grabbed Beth by the hips and pulled her to him.  “I couldn’t wait to get you alone.”  He bent in and kissed her, long and deep.  They separated but laid their foreheads together.  “Mmmm…that’s more like it.”
“If you kiss me again like that, I may not be able to let you go.”
            “Who said anything about going?”
“Chad…you have shows lined up.  Now Cassie is awake, and doing well…you should go, be with the guys.”
“I’ll stay if you need me.”
“Of course, I need you,” she replied, kissing him again.  “But I’ll be fine.”
“Well, this time I’m giving you my cell number, and if you need anything….”
            “I’ll call you.  I promise.”
“Well, I guess I should go, then.” He rubbed her arms in the cold.  “Roger’s probably having a mini-cow by now.  He can be pretty anal.”
“Actually, he called me on a hospital line when you were in the bathroom.”
            “He did?”
“Yes.  He was very sweet.  Wanted to know if there was anything I needed.”
“I don’t know if I like that clown callin’ my best gal.”
“You,” she whispered tugging on the sides of his leather jacket, and then gazing up at him with both sincerity and longing, “have nothing to worry about.”  And the kiss she gave him left little doubt.
They strolled back towards Cassie’s room, arm-in-arm, both quiet, occupied with their own thoughts.  Beth stopped in mid-step.
“It never dawned on me to ask before, I don’t know why, maybe because I was just so happy to see you, but, how did you know what had happened?”
“When you didn’t show up at the stadium, I started calling your house.  By the time your friend, Cali, answered, I was half-crazed.”
            Beth smiled, “Cali.”
            “Yeah.  She’s…interesting.”
Beth laughed.  “Let’s just say, she’s my Roger.”
“Ohh.  God help us both.”  They laughed.
“She should have been here by now,” Beth commented, checking her watch.  “But knowing Cali, she probably stopped at Starbucks, and got her nails done.”
“Heyyy!” came a loud cry from down the hall.
            “There she is!”
Chad looked up to see a loud, leggy, good-looking blonde approaching with, ironically, a carry-out tray from Starbucks with two cups and a bag of some sort, which the blonde, without warning, shoved into his hands.
“Take this so I can give my girl a hug.”  She drew Beth in and then pulled away to ask seriously, “How is she?”
“Much, much better,” Beth answered her with a smile.
“Good.  I told you my prayers would work.” Cali smiled up at Chad, taking the tray back.  “I’ve got an in with The Big Man.”  Chad somehow doubted that.  “You’re Chad Evans,” she balanced the coffee and extended her hand.  “Nice to finally meet you.”  She leaned into Beth, “You’re right,” she whispered loud enough for him to hear, “he is hot.”
Beth giggled but swatted her friend on the shoulder.  “And he was just leaving.”  Chad extended his hand to take Beth‘s.  “Just sit right here, Cal.  I’ll be right back.”
            “Sure you will.”
            “She’s…interesting,” Chad stated again.
“Yeah, but she’s fantastic.”  They had reached the door.  They could see a couple of cabs waiting for a fare in the taxi stand across the circle drive.  “I’ll miss you,” she said, brushing her lips over his.
Without pulling away he ordered, “Remember, call me if you need anything.”
She pointed at the pocket where she kept her cell phone, which he had programmed his number into.  “I will.”
The rocker snagged her bottom lip in his and then kissed her one last time, hating to leave her, but knowing he probably should.
Beth watched until the cab had driven away, partly wishing she had made him stay.

On Becky Lower's blog tomorrow I'm talking about my decision to self-publish. Then click in on Monday as I follow that up on Peggy Bird's blog by discussing how I turned that decision into my rocking paperback book! On Rowena O'Sullivan's blog find out who I'd have to a dinner party (besides y'all). Carol Ritten Smith's blog will tell you about cake walks, snorkeling, and hot air ballooning! Find out about my karaoke favorites on Nancy Loyan's blog (I know you've been dying to hear that!). And then see me sweat on Friday under the grilling of Holley Trent's Five W's and Traci Douglass's 20 Questions! Hope you can stop by and spend some time with me and these great ladies. While there, check out the fabulous books they have written, too. I know you will find my hostesses as delightful as I do! See ya there!
